Childbirth has always come with danger. Medicine has decreased the risks but not the fear that comes with life being threatened. Just like the body, our emotional and mental experiences are also casualties of existential experiences. We need to take time after acute circumstances to ground our experience and let the waves of emotions dissipate. Digesting our experience allows us to heal and reclaim our lost sense of power.
